Would James Kirk Make A Good Debt Agency Owner?

By Rob Sutter

"Star Trek: Into Darkness" hit theaters recently and it was one of the movies that I can say I had fun seeing on an impulse. I didn't know what to expect going into it and I suppose that it was for the best. After all, I was able to have fun with this film after I was able to shut my brain off just a bit. However, I was able to pick up character traits - likes the ones James Kirk possesses - and I must wonder if he is actually the best choice for a debt agency.

For those who simply went into the movie without any knowledge of the television show, you might have still been able to get a good impression of Kirk's personality. On the plus side, he is very caring when it comes to his crew and it seems like he will do just about anything for them. However, he is very much a stickler for the rules. In terms of running any company, this may just prove to be the greatest downfall that can be tied to his character.

Kirk definitely went through a bit in the first couple of scenes in the film. After the Enterprise was exposed to an entire planet, he was stripped of his position as captain of the Enterprise, losing control of the ship in turn. While he went on to regain his spot, it's apparent that his attitude often leads him down paths most would rather avoid. Kirk's leadership skills may work well in a science fiction realm but does this necessarily mean that they are going to translate well to business?

Is it possible for Kirk to work as the owner of a debt agency? I would have to shake my head in response to this because I don't know how willing he would be when it comes to working within a certain set of rules. He is easily one of the more emotional captains that just about any ship could possess and something tells me that the same level of emotion would carry over to work in the real world. There are reputable companies like Rapid Recovery that know just how important the rules are.

From what the movie showed me, Kirk doesn't seem to possess the kind of ability that a debt agency owner requires. He's not the kind of character who would wind up abiding by certain guidelines, which is probably the most detrimental factor you could consider. I still believe that he has potential, though, because I want to believe that his heart is in the right place. He is willing to bring down any threat to protect his crew, even if it means that he has to go down in the process.
